Working on an Icelandic farm?

The Icelandic Agricultural Information Service and The Farmers Association of Iceland do not handle applications from foreigners who want to come to work in Iceland. However, we want to assist you as much as possible by providing some useful and relevant information.

Information for citizens from outside the EEA countries

Citizens of EEA countries
First of all, if you are a resident of an EEA country, (the EEA countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden, plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) you can either obtain work in Iceland before coming to the country or after your arrival. An EEA citizen and accompanying family members are permitted to come to Iceland and stay up to 3 months. When staying in Iceland for more than three months, you must have a residence permit and contact the Immigration Service.

Advertising in the classifieds in Bændablaðið is a good place if you are looking for general work on farms in Iceland, for example dairy farms, sheep farms, mixed farms (for example cows and horses). It's the farmer's bi-monthly magazine, distributed to all farms in Iceland, so every farmer has an opportunity to see your advertisement.
